Project name: Green transport – introducing sustainable forms of transport through experience and good practices exchange
Period of implementation: 10.04.2009 – 08.10.2010
The project partners are: Blagoevgrad Municipality, Bulgaria, Alliance for regional and civil initiatives (ARCI), Bulgaria, Szekesfehervar Municipality, Hungary and Alba Regia Ifjusagi es Szabadidos Egyesulet (ARISE), Hungary.
Project objectives:
- To establish an effective partnership between the Municipalities of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria and Szekesfehervar, Hungary and NGOs partners in order to share best practices in the field of transport and traffic management.
- To analyze opportunities for sustainable transport in the municipality of Blagoevgrad – including the construction of bike lanes, racks, and the introduction of the service “rent – a-bike”.
Target groups and beneficiaries:
Target group: 30 representatives of municipal administration, companies engaged in manufacturing and selling bicycles, stands and accessories, companies offering bike rental and organizations to support sustainable transport and the use of bicycles.
Final beneficiaries: from the project results will benefit all residents of Blagoevgrad municipality (76,699 people) and Székesfehérvár municipality (101,465 people)
Achieved results:
- Conducted 2 bilateral visitsfor exchange of best practices;
- Identified good practices in both communities, which can be implemented in partner countries;
- Elaborated analysis of the opportunity Blagoevgrad municipality to increase the use of bicycles;
- Conducted 2 surveys of public attitude in both communities towards use of bicycles;
- Elaborated Strategy with outlined concrete steps for piloting of the “rent – a- bike” service in Blagoevgrad municipality;
- Conducted information campaign tо inform the public about the project and to promote the use of bicycles in urban.
